A new single cross hybrid, "Heugjeomchal", is a white and black bicolor waxy corn(Zea mays L.) developed by the Maize Experiment Station(MES), Gangwondo Agricultural Research and Extension Services(GARES) in Hongcheon in 2000. "Heugjeomchal" was made by crossing two inbred lines, the seed parent, KL103, and the pollen parent, KW7. KL103 has black seed coat, but KW7 has white one. Both of them came from Korean local varieties and were advanced to four and seven generations by ear-to-row method, respectively. The silking date is about two weeks later than that of check hybrid, Chalok 1. Ear length(19.5㎝) was longer than that(16.3㎝) of Chalok 1. Plant and ear heights were higher than those of Chalok 1. It also had greater lodging resistance. Grain qualities and panel test of "Heugjeomchal" were better than those of any other check varieties. Number of ear and ear weight were 6,187 ears/10a and 891㎏/10a in Gangwon regional yield trial, respectively. In the regional yield trial, Heugjeomchal was 4% higher in the number of ear than Chalok 1 or Chalok 2. As for ear weight, "Heugjeomchal" was 6% higher than Chalok 1 and 13% higher than Chalok 2.
